Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Paper Doll Craft
In my round-up of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day educational ideas for very young children, I mentioned paper doll chains.
My kids enjoyed making them while my four year old and I spoke about embracing diversity and valuing people for what’s on the inside.
1. “Accordion fold” a piece of white paper and draw the outline of half of a child. Make sure hands connect all the way to the edge of the paper.
2. Cut on the lines and you should have a connected chain of paper dolls.
3. Paint as desired! My daughter really got into the idea of a “rainbow of colors” while my son seemed to be in a black and blue mood today. Older children might like the idea of making multi-racial dolls or blending rainbow colors across the spectrum.
4. Draw-on facial features, if desired.
Go out and play with some friends, read a book about Martin Luther King, Jr.–together we can make the world a better place and honor the memory of Dr. King and all others who fought for equal rights!
