Are You Ready for Summer Reading Fun?

I am over-the-moon to announce that I have accepted a position as one of the community leaders at the brand new Random House Read & Play Summer Fun Community at BlogFrog.

I hope you will join us at the official Launch Party is Thursday, June 30, 9-10 pm EST–just bookmark this thread and the launch party will go live at 9pm!

Keep reading because I am going to tell you about some of the exciting PRIZES you can win (including an iPad2 so you can make me very jealous).

First, though, I want to tell you why I am thrilled to be part of this community.

We are a reading family.  My husband teases me about the daily calls from the library, notifying me that one of our holds has arrived.  We have books in every room of the house. We read all day long.  We read to acquire knowledge, to have a shared experience, and just for the sheer joy of it.

You’ve probably noticed that most of my posts involve recommended reading or issues surrounding literacy.  As a former high school social studies and art history teacher, I have realized that academic learning all begins with early literacy.  Reading is the key that opens up an entire treasure chest of imagination, discovery, and power for our children.  Literacy is a bridge to self-reflection, other cultures, empathy, and reaching our goals.

So, how could I resist the call to join Random House Kids on a reading adventure this summer!

At the Random House Read & Play Summer Fun Community you are welcome to ask questions, get advice, laugh, make friends, commiserate with fellow parents about your challenges, and brag about your successes!

We’ll be talking about reading lists, literacy strategies, learning activities, combating boredom, vacation plans, summer fun, social media and technology–and pretty much anything you want to chat about on the topic of learning with your family.

Plus you’ll have the opportunity to win amazing prizes–just by participating! At the Launch Party we’ll be giving away over $100 worth of gift cards and summer titles from Random House Kids. And you can find out more about how to enter to win that iPad2.

Even better, we’ll be donating books to needy kids thanks to our Friends at FirstBook.

Check out the roster of stellar community leaders who are ready to chat about summer reading & playing:

See you at the official Launch Party: Thursday, June 30, 9-10 pm EST!

  9. Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass favor.
