We buy local when we can, but we aren’t a member of our local CSA share (despite knowing a woman who runs an organic farm that serves as a the local distribution center) and we do not grow our own produce. There are … Read entire article »

Math is Everywhere! Bedtime Math #STEMchat

Math is everywhere! Every day we use math–to estimate distances, tell time, divide up treats, listen to music, take care of finances, and to make the most of our day. Back when I did theater improv, there was a “Yes, and…” rule. You could not shut down someone’s ideas with a “no.” Instead, you had to accept their idea and then build on it with your own. As parents, we feel responsible for saying “no” a lot. Of course, no, you cannot eat only chocolate all day, no, you cannot give  your baby sister to the bears at the zoo, and no, you cannot skateboard off … Read entire article »

Books for the Children of Moore, Oklahoma

When my husband was branched Field Artillery, we spent some time at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. We watched some violent storms and had some tornado warnings and watches but there was no major damage while we were there. This spring, the people of Oklahoma have had their lives literally torn apart by the destructive forces of major tornadoes. With the destruction of Hurricane Sandy on Long Island still fresh in my mind, I really feel for the … Read entire article »
